Liz Calls on GOP to Stop Blocking Law on ‘Ghost’ Campaign Funds

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Liz released the following statement today, calling on the State Senate’s Republican majority to allow a floor vote on S. 420, a commonsense anti-corruption measure that would fix a gap in New York’s campaign finance law. The bill would enact reasonable rules for the timely disposition of campaign funds, and addresses the problem of former politicians keeping hoards of campaign cash years after their careers are over, creating a situation that invites corruption.

According to the New York Public Interest Research Group, there are at least 43 such ‘ghost committees’ totalling at least $11 million in unspent campaign cash.
