Statement from Senator Liz Krueger on Judge’s Decision to Close Club Duvet
“I am extremely pleased with the judge’s decision to close Club Duvet today. Duvet has a long history of being one of the worst actors of any bar in New York City with numerous incidents involving the police and highlighted by the murder of a patron inside the club.
I also want to thank and congratulate the new commissioner of the SLA for his successful pursuit of closing such a terrible player in Duvet. Commissioner Rosen recently came into the job promising reform of the SLA and this is a great precedent to set for his tenure. While bars and nightlife play an important role in the economic, cultural, and social vitality of our city, we must also ensure that they abide by the laws of our state. Most of the bars in New York City do act responsibly but when clubs like Duvet flaunt the laws of our state, the SLA must make sure they are reprimanded. Today was a positive step in that direction and will hopefully make other bad bars think twice before they break the law.”
